Then God commanded, "Let the water be filled with many kinds of living beings, and let the air be filled with birds." So God created the great sea monsters, all kinds of creatures that live in the water and all kinds of birds.

This year, our theme for Catholic School's Week is
The story of Creation.
Our floor will come to life as we focus on the 5th day of creation.  You invited to come to our
Open House on Sunday, January 28th
11am -1pm.

Join us at one of our regional parishes and help kick of our week long celebration. You are invited back to our school
and see the beautiful projects the children at SEAS have created.

This will be our focus in religion for the next couple of weeks.

What's happening this week
(January 16, 2018 to January 19, 2018)

I hope you all enjoyed your three day weekend.
We might only have 4 days this week, but we will be very busy.

In Fundations, we are reviewing the letter e, (our 5th vowel.)  The children will use the  white boards and tile boards to review letters and sight words.

In phonics, we are up to unit 4, week one. We will review the letter Oo.

I hope you enjoyed listening to your child read the last few stories in unit 3. They are doing great!!

They will be introduced to words:
on, top, tot, pot mom and not

The short vowel sound "0" is the focus of our cvc words. The children are becoming more comfortable with tapping out the words.  This is a great strategy for the children to look at each cvc word, examine the letters, attach the sound and string the sounds together to create the word.

In our Wonders readers:
The Essential Question is:
What do you know about the people and places in your neighborhood?

We will discuss what people use to do their jobs.

Our sight word is "you".
Tom on Top!

As we do each day in Fundations, we drill our letters and sounds.
Our letters up to this point are:
t, b, f, n, m, i, u, c, o, a, g, d, s and e

 We will review:

 our sight words:
I , can, the, we, see, a, like, to, and, and go

The children are doing such a great job putting their words together to create sentences.

-We will look at picture cards and then try to come up with additional words that begin with the letter e.

- The children will choose objects from our special backpack and pull out objects that begin with the letter "e"They continue to give great clues and are more comfortable with picking friends to guess the object.

We read the Story:
This is the Jacket I Wear in the Snow

We discussed how the author, Shirley Neitzel used descriptive words when introducing each article of clothing.
Rhyme after rhyme as each layer of winter clothing ("bunchy and hot, wrinkled a lot, stiff in the knee, and too big for me!") is first put on and then taken off.

The children are working on a book where they use descriptive words for their articles of clothing. Their colors are beautiful.

The children wrote their 3rd story in our Writer's Workshop. The children came up with great topics, illustrated their work and had fun sharing their story with their classmates.
They are really gaining confidence in their writing and public speaking. The audience asks great questions and give really nice compliments.

Just a note:

Tuesday, January 16 - Candy sale begins

Thursday, January 18 - Dress down day
