    • About Mrs. Conway

I am excited to be entering my 18th year in the classroom!

Over the years, I've had the privilege of teaching multiple grade levels, with 4th grade being one of my favorites.

I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from St. John's University and a Master of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education from CW Post.

I am happily married, with three adult children and a beloved grand-puppy.

In my free time, I love biking, reading, and spending time with my family.

I love being a part of the St. Elizabeth family, and I look forward to another wonderful year together.

Friends, today’s Gospel gives us the Our Father. It asks that God’s will be done “on earth as it is in heaven,” but biblical cosmology sees these two realms as interpenetrating fields of force.
  • What we learn in Fourth Grade

    • Reading

      ***************************

Fourth graders will build comprehension skills by reading many different passages, learning and applying context clues and  reading deeply for  comprehension.

The main skills your child will master are:

      • Summarizing the main topic of a text and the key supporting details.
      • Pointing out the evidence used to explain or support what an author’s writing about.
      • Giving in-depth descriptions of characters, setting, and events in a story.
      • Explaining events, procedures, or a timeline of historical events based on written texts.
      • Interpreting information from charts, images, videos, time lines, and diagrams and explaining how it fits with the information your child has read.

    • ELA

      ***********************

Writing skills will continue to be polished and built upon this year. A fourth grade language arts curriculum will help students learn and master tons of new writing concepts including the following:

      • Use interjections, prepositions and conjunctions for more descriptive and elaborate writing
      • Understand each of the five stages of the writing process: planning, drafting, revising, editing, publishing
      • Write a narrative complete with an event, narrator and characters

Fourth grade language arts activities should provide students with plenty of opportunities to learn and practice new grammar skills in order to enhance their writing and communication. Below are some of the grammar goals and objectives that a 5th grade language arts curriculum should help your child achieve.

      • Use punctuation in titles correctly with proper capitalization and quotation marks.
      • Use correlative conjunctions correctly in a sentence: not only/but also, either/or, neither/nor
      • Use perfect verb tense correctly and understand how they convey time of events.
    • Social Studies

      Map of New York
      ***********************

Grade 4 Social Studies is focused on New York State and local communities and their change over time, incorporating the study of geography, history, economics, and government.

    • Religion

      **************************
Grade 4 will learn various Bible Stories, the 10 Commandments, Beatitudes, Rosary, Prayers, Review Sacraments and Holy Days, Virtues and Saints.
Our Grade Saint that we will learn about is Saint Kateri Tekakwitha, the first Native American saint from the territories of the United States and Canada, she is popularly venerated as a patroness of ecology.

    • HW Policy

Why we assign homework: We believe homework is important because it is a valuable aid in helping students make the most of their experience in school. We give homework because it is useful in reinforcing what has been learned in class, prepares students for upcoming lessons, teaches responsibility, and helps students develop positive study habits.
When we assign homework: Homework will be assigned Monday through Friday. Assignments may either be written or online. We do not give a lot of homework and we expect the students to complete the assignments when given. Students should be studying and reviewing material each night as part of their homework.
Student’s homework responsibilities: We expect students to do their best job on their homework. We expect homework to be neat. We expect students to do their work on their own and only ask for help after they have given their BEST effort. We expect all assignments to be returned on the day it is due. Any incomplete classwork is also considered homework and should be completed that night. An "OOPS" slip will be given for missing homework. Three "OOPS" slips becomes a Yellow Light.
Parent homework responsibility: Parents play an important role in making homework a positive experience for their children. Therefore, I ask that parents make homework a top priority. Parents should supervise and guide, but not complete the homework for your child.
