Respect, Responsibility,
& Reverence
Welcome to Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Regional School Nursery Program. Our progam has been designed especially for the developing 3 and 4 year old student. Each student will have the experience of learning through structured playtime, instuctional one-on-one learning, small group interaction, and whole group instruction.
Happy Fall to all! The first day of Autumn began on September 23rd. The Nursery students have been introduced to the September calendar and each day we count the days of the month together. The students have been introduced to the season of Fall through a picture display in our classroom. They have been able to name the differences in a picture of summer and a picture of Fall. We hope the season of Fall will cooperate with us here in Bellmore, and show us it's full display of color and change. This week, we will compare a Summer tree and a Fall tree by painting leaves on an activity sheet, one picture for summer, and one picture for fall. We will also note the change in weather, especially in the morning hours while entering our school. Some of the students have already arrived last week to school in sweaters and light jackets.
Our students have been introduced to and are practicing the short prayer before snack and our "goodbye" prayer before home. This week we will learn the Hail Mary. This comes in time for the month of October, the month of the Rosary. The children will learn that Mary helps us to pray with our Rosary beads and that she has a special prayer we can prayer to her.
Each day a student is responsible for leading the class in prayer, singing songs, leading the class to different parts of the building such as gym and eventually library. The students are learning the concept of next,
before and after. They see the order of names posted on our calendar wall, and are able to read their names on the list. This activity gives our students the concept of responsibility as they look forward to have the opportunity to lead the class when it is their turn. Taking turns is a skill they will need throughout their lives. Our students are practicing this skill in class and especially during free choice activity.
Free choice activity is set up as centers around the classroom. As of now, we have many different choice activities such as the housekeeping center, block center, science center with dinosaurs and their play environment, a car center and puzzles. We also have a teacher table center. Last week, we read the text, " If You Give A Mouse A Cookie." We decorated a cookie and completed an activity sheet, enhancing our literacy skills. We also decorated a fish and painted a Sea scene. We created a seascape mural that hangs in our classroom. This was accompanied by observing different sea shells. We are preparing to say "goodbye" to summer.
Our focus this week will center around the season of Autumn and to learn the signs of the season. We will discuss the color blue in class and add the first page of our "Color Book" which will help us to review the color red which has been the focus of learning for the past week.
We look forward to a great week of learning.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jane Cappiello
